Clairene & Hair Accessories

Clairene has refused to let us put on any hair accessories on her head since she was around 9 months old. Well, she loves taking stuff like hairbands (esp taking the one I'm wearing off my head) and hair clips and puts them on her head herself, but she would take them off after a few seconds or shortly after she has checked her own reflection in the mirror.

Today, when I came home, she's wearing this sweet lil' hair clip which I bought for her first birthday. For once, she kept it on for at least an hour and even refused to take it off when I touched it. It seems like she has learnt something about dolling herself up and it's time I can start investing in hats and clips for my lil' darling.

Danny is Done with Diapers (A Potty ABC Board Book)

Read this book with Clairene when she was undergoing potty training at 19th month.
Great illustrations too! We read it may times while she was sitting on the potty.
Taught her vocabulary (diapers, toilet, underwear, etc), talked about hygiene (washing hands)
and reinforced learning the alphabet at the same time
since she was already able to recognise most of the letters at that time.



Little Reindeer (Touch and Explore Board Book)

Used books like these to expose Clairene to things she would not easily see in real life - snow, reindeer, snowman, log cabins, pine trees. etc . The touch and feel feature increased the fun element.

Spot's Birthday Party (Board Book)

Clairene enjoys this book partly because of the birthday theme. She read it at the time when she has just learnt to sing the birthday song and to blow out candles on a cake. Excited at the end when we talked about presents received by Spot and when I told her that her sister would give her one when they meet up soon (the time when I was pregnant and preparing her for her sister's arrival).
After a few readings, she could name me all the hidden animals even before we lifted the flaps.
It's amazing to me - didn't expect a 18-month old kid could learn that fast. 

Under the Sea (Usborne Lift and Look Board Book)

Clairene loves this book and enjoys lifting the flaps to look for different sea creatures.
Taught her new vocabulary such as lion fish, sharks, jellyfish, dolphins, seahorses etc.
